The Dunes at Oceano, along the California Central Coast, are fascinating both to experience and to photograph. They are truly sensuous and "alive." The virtually ever present wind often blows a veil of sand just over the smooth, curvaceous surface of the dunes, making them almost look as if they are in motion. And, in fact, they are, and you can feel it on your ankles.
This shot was taken with the Rollei SL66 and a 50 mm Distagon wide angle lens. The SL66's ability to tilt the lens and control the field of focus played a major role in allowing this composition and maintaining almost perfect sharpness from the individual grains of sand in the foreground to the dunes in the distance.
I have recently reprinted this negative to give it a substantially different interpretation than in the past. However, as with all of my prints, it is a "straight" photo, not a composite.
