This old Foxtail pine snag is on a ridge between South Fork and Cirque Lakes. Cirque Lake is one of destinations for hikes we often take from the Golden Trout Camp. Although in the past I used medium format film cameras with a tripod, here I was very glad to have a digital camera handy for a fast hand held shot before I became a lightning rod.
Though the Southern High Sierras usually have relatively dry weather in the summer, afternoon thundershowers are not un-common. Being on peaks, ridges or mountain passes is not recommended when the lighting starts.
